Ambulance A means of transport used to transport ill or injured people with medical needs. A vehicle is specially equipped for transporting Patients. Examples of ambulances are: cars, trucks, helicopters, airplanes or boats.

Air Ambulance An air ambulance is a specially equipped aircraft. It is mainly used for medical assistance in emergency situations where either a traditional land ambulance cannot reach the sick or injured Patient easily or quickly enough, or the Patient needs to be transported over a distance or terrain that makes air transportation the most practical transport. There are two types of air ambulances – fixed wing (i.e. planes) or rotary wing (helicopter). Each air ambulance is fully equipped as an ambulance and can be configured with a stretcher. The type of equipment on an air ambulance will be specific to the need of each Patient and an operator.

Fit-to-fly Certificate A document required by air ambulance service provider, signed off by a doctor confirming that Patient's medical condition allows for the Patient to be transported by air (either by private air ambulance or on a commercial flight accompanied by medical escort).
 
Flight Nurse A flight nurse is a nurse that takes care of a Patient on an Air Ambulance medical flight.
 
Flight Paramedic A flight paramedic is a paramedic that takes care of a Patient on an Air Ambulance medical flight.
 
Ground Ambulance A ground ambulance is a vehicle (a car or a van) that transports people usually to and from hospitals. At Mediaviation, ground ambulance is also used to pick the Patient from the airport (after a medical flight) and take them either back home or to the medical facility.

Land Ambulance A land ambulance is the synonym of a ground ambulance, so a land ambulance is a vehicle (a car or a van) that transports people usually to and from hospitals. At Mediaviation, ground ambulance is also used to pick the Patient from the airport (after a medical flight) and take them either back home or to the medical facility.

Life Port A piece of equipment that allows a stretcher to be transferred directly from a land ambulance onto the air ambulance and from air ambulance to land ambulance with all life support systems remaining fully operational.
 
Medical Escort A medical escort is a medical service provided to accompany any Patient that needs help and medical assistance during a commercial flight.

Medical Evacuation The evacuation of injured people in a timely and efficient manner from the battlefield or a scene of an accident to a place where they can receive appropriate medical treatment. A medical evacuation usually is performed by medically equipped ground vehicles (ambulances or land ambulances) or aircraft (airplane or helicopter).

Medical Flight A medical flight is an air transfer by air ambulance, either rotary (helicopter) or fixed wing (plane) where a Patient is accompanied by flight medical team (e.g. flight doctor, flight nurse, flight paramedic).
  Also Known As: aero-medical flight, air repatriation, aero-medical repatriation
 
Medical Repatriation The procedure where Patients and their families are transported back into their country of origin subsequent to a medical emergency. For medical repatriation usually a ground or air ambulance is used. In some cases, where Patient's condition allows, Patient can be escorted on commercial flight with medical escort.

Nurse A nurse is a medical professional specially educated and trained to care for Patients and help them in their treatment and recovery.
 
Paramedic In the UK, a paramedic is a medical professional who is specially trained to provide pre-hospital advanced medical and trauma care. A paramedic has to be registered as a State Registered Paramedic in pursuance of the Paramedic Board of the Health Professions Council. Technician A person who holds the Institute of Health Care Development (IHCD) proficiency certificate in Ambulance Aid and has completed a qualifying period of 12 months Emergency and Urgent activity. Mediaviation, private air ambulance service providers, employs technicians for land ambulance transfers to assist our private medical air repatriations in order to provide bed-to-bed service.
